Raffeix map

The relatively feeble state of Jesuit map making and knowledge of the North American interior is illustrated below by the Raffeix map created in about 1683. Examination of the contours of the Illinois and Mississippi Rivers on this map and comparison with these rivers on the map supposedly drawn ten years earlier on the Marquette map "discovered" in 1844 casts a dim light on the veracity of the later.
